Zhiwei (Berry) Wang is a fifth-year doctoral candidate in the Operations, Information and Decisions Department at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His research examines how digital technologies shape firm competition. His recent work studies: 1) why firms choose open-source versus proprietary strategies in software markets, and 2) how legacy IT systems affect firm value and the adoption of generative AI. Much of this research uses large-scale archival data and firm-level technology measures to study why firms differ in their ability to adapt to emerging digital technologies. Prior to his doctoral studies, Berry received bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Business Management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
